Winter Solstice Oil

The Winter Solstice is full of potential for magic! Step out into the still air this Thursday, December 21st, 2024 at 10:27pm Eastern, close your eyes and cast your senses. You will feel the palpable energy of hope and promise permeating the night air. Let it wash over you…

The Solstice is a wonderful opportunity to take advantage of the abundant energies and to also utilize certain ingredients that are very common this time of year.

Solstice Oil:

  • Collect some conifer needles from a winter walk (you may consider using those from your Christmas tree if you have one!), and orange peel, whole cloves, and cinnamon sticks.

  • Warm some cacao butter, coconut oil, or olive oil very gently in a double boiler. Ensure the bottom of the bowl does not touch the water.

  • Throw in the items, one at a time, stirring clockwise with a wooden spoon or stick. As you add each ingredient, you might consider chanting an incantation such as, “As surely as the sun does rise, As surely as the days grow long, Help me trod my chosen path, Guide my Light and keep me strong.”

  • Simmer very gently and enjoy the blessed aroma as it suffuses your home and spirit!

  • Remove the oil from the heat and let it cool. Cover it with plastic wrap and let it steep overnight.

  • At this point, you might add any other essential oils you enjoy, for example frankincense.

  • Strain the oil through a cheesecloth or coffee filter. Put it in an air-tight container. It will keep for several months in the fridge. To prevent mistakes, label it "not for consumption."

In the coming months, if you should feel you’ve faltered as you strive towards your goals, anoint yourself with the oil on your chest over your heart. Then meditate on strengthening your resolve again and recommit to your goal.

You can also pour a few drops into a bathtub and meditate on your goals as you bathe or shower. This should help you stay the course as you work toward bigger and better things in life.

Blessed Yule!
